Laurie is a mixed-media artist with a passion for combining and overlapping a variety of mediums creating an original style of mixed-media mosaics and assemblage using handmade tile. Her passion for travel to far off places and her experiences of living abroad (East Africa) have shaped the way her art looks today, especially since her work is embellished with the many found objects gleaned during her travels. Laurie recently started teaching at national and internationally recognized art retreats like ArtFest, Art Unraveled, Art and Soul, Hacienda Mosaico in Mexico and in 2008 she will teach in Tuscany. Combining art with travel is a dream come true for her.
Laurie’s mixed-media mosaics have been included in many group shows and galleries and in 2007 one of her pieces won Best In Show for 2-D in the Society of American Mosaic Artist exhibition. Her work has also been published in numerous magazines, Expressions, Somerset Studio, Haute Handbags, Altered Couture, Somerset Gallery 5, Somerset Wedding and Somerset Home and in books, 400 Polymer Clay Designs, Mosaic Art and Style, New Techniques for Wearable Art and Beyond Paper Dolls. Laurie was featured on both HGTV’s, Crafter’s Coast to Coast and on DIY networks, Craft Lab. Her new book, Mixed Media Mosaics, published by North Light Books was released in June, 2007.
