This collar is inspired by Juno - Queen of the Roman pantheon. She controls marriage, pregnancy and childbirth, and exudes power and authority. She is revered for her loyalty, to both friends and lovers. Her regal colours of red, gold and purple establish her Queenly credentials.
Juno is part of a series of bead embroidered collars that have been inspired by female divinity. These pieces germinate with a polymer clay or glass cabochon or sculpted figure. This dictates the shape of the collar. All cabs are glued down – and then the piece grows organically. Only the best glass, pearls and gems are used – to do otherwise would dishonor the goddess who inspires the piece.
My work with struggling, dysfunctional families and those on the fringes of our society has inspired me to look deeper within for answers. I am passionate about social justice, equity and honesty. Without these qualities to aspire to – a society is inevitably consumed by greed and selfishness.
As a city dweller, I am constantly battling with my own frustrations. I have what is called a “low frustration tolerance”, apparently! Poor drivers, long queues, colleagues who let me down - if I am not vigilant, these things can really get to me. One way of managing my stress levels is to pour out this negative energy and channel it into something creative.
I love to make frippery (referring to myself as "The Fabulous Frippist") and use it to decorate my body and my space. I get much joy from teaching others to make their own versions.
